I do not think I have ever used the smudge tool for any reason other than completely messing up an image ( Mostly when I am disatisfied by the final result, then I start over), but I remember reading a tutorial about avatar picture hair editing that needed the smudge tool to be used in combination with another tool. There are probably many other ways to use it but, its usage is not really something I have encountered very often.

I use the blur tool and combine it with the clone and heal tools for that.

I should look into that. My seamless textures are smudged and crappy.

I use Paint.Net's Seamless Texture plugin lol.

Yes well, it'll probably take a while for me to write them now that my exams have started.

He has not been on the site since Nov 28, 2012 though. But check out the graphics section anyway.
