i think the biggest key feature is being able to boot people out your private chat. i cant say i dont like it yet since it just was released and have yet to be able to fully test it. they have also added a pop up for when you receive a new message which is another good thing because it saves you time if your in chat without having to click over to see if you got a msg from someone yet.

do yall think this was a nice update or is imvu doing to much? give me your take on it.

A limit on how many private chats you can have open is a terrible idea. It's just a way to force people to buy more stuff.

Opening rooms in a new tab when you just want to change scenes is also a terrible idea.

Booting everyone out of a private chat if the host leaves is a terrible idea.

IMVU actually use to open a new tab for changing a scene 6 years ago, but they changed it to decrease the load on the server.

so then what is this doing increasing the server again to which is why they did away with it before? Id just like to know whats so good about the feature that they brought it back considering its going to use more cache having to load more rooms causing quicker lag on older computers.

That is why they also added the feature that you can only open a single private chat per scene that you own. Opening a new tab will increase server load, but limiting the number of private chats will cap the increase at an amount that hopefully their servers can handle.

They brought back new tabs for opening new scenes because people were demanding for a way to boot from private chats, but booting from a private chat is impossible without a room ID tied to a customer ID as the owner to check booting privileges. Thus, every scene in your inventory has to be tied to a room.

People keep saying that they did not ask for all of these changes, but what they do not realize is that they were asking for all of these changes. By asking for booting privileges on private chats, all of this stuff has to come with it. It is like asking for rain and complaining that there are clouds in the sky.

So there's no way to create a room instance no matter what room shell it's using and tie it to the owner so they can have boot privileges? That way you can load a new scene but still be in the same instance of a room. Kind of like a game server, it doesn't matter what map the people are playing, it's the same server with the same ip and same admins. There's no way to use that logic on IMVU rooms?

EDIT: Hell, even Minecraft does it now. You can open up a single player game to lan and have people join you. The single player game is actually a local server that you play on by yourself and when you choose to open it to lan, it allows others to join in. I am sure some of this logic could be applied.

Most likely not without changing a shit ton of their base programming; changes to which would most likely break a shit ton of stuff in the client / on their site.

Remember, we tried to build our site the same way IMVU inc built theirs, so we could understand them better. They are most likely having the same problems as us. Limits on new features based on older programming that can not be changed without breaking a dozen other things.

Based on some of the feedback, we are introducing a new functionality with the latest client pre-release 490.10

Now you can add your rooms and furniture in the Dress Up mode. This means you will not have to open new tabs if you are alone in a room and want to change scenes for photos etc.

You will still have to invite people to chat with from the My Room mode and open tabs if you change scenes while in a chat with someone.

Well that's a small step forward I'd say. I'd still like to have an in depth explanation of how this current update is more efficient. I can't imagine how it could be. As most have said, opening a new tab means more cache created and more memory usage. I'll have to find their dev blog again and see if they've posted anything a bit more technical.
