It only protects against h4c|<7d clients.
Non-client based ripping tools can still get past it.

It think it modifies the product's pathing in a way that crashes create mode.

Yes and no, it works but in the process of working it locks you out of your own product. I wasn't able to come up with a method for locking a product while still allowing the creator to have it open in create mode to submit.
