What? i dont remember this....having to give a phone#, then verify from a text? :?:

Any solution to get around this? I really dont want my blowing up with spam.

Personally, I suggest Google Voice, you can pick your own number and use it to text and call people for free: https://www.google.com/voice

I like how they assume everyone has texting ....

If I remember right though, there is a skip button and they give you other options to verify.

Nope no skip button. Also looked into the Google phone, they want phone number to verify too. WTF!!!

Hmm, I didn't remember having to put my real phone number in when I made an account, but I know Google won't ever send your phone anything. It's just a way to verify your account. Once you have it,, you can make a phone number and use it just like your normal phone, except you need Gmail open and their plugin to make a phone call or receive calls. But texts get sent to your inbox just like an email would and you can reply.

If you want, I'll pm you my Google number and you can have FaceBook or Google text me instead. I'll send you the verification code you need.

I just looked it up. For the past 10 months, they have been making new accounts in countries known for high spam count verify using texting to reduce spam on facebook.
