Pirates are masters of the sea and can use their amazing skills on land too... Ninjas are just a sad replica of the great ancient samurais, and no one likes copycats. Plus they don't know how to be masters of the sea. Also, they are good at not being seen... if you can't see them what's the point? A further addition, all they do is tricks with knives and a few funky leg movements. Circus hiring anyone?
